When traveling to Venice, Italy, many people get caught up in the main area where thousands of tourists flock, and seem to overlook one of the most beautiful attractions that Venice has to offer: the island of Burano. Burano is one of the many islands that is located in the Venetian Lagoon, on the coast of the Adriatic Sea. Although Burano is about a 45 minute boat ride from the mainland of Venice, it is well worth your time.
Although just a tiny island, easily walkable in only a few hours, Burano is a craftsmanship capital of the world for lacemaking as well as glass-making. As you walk along the narrow, quaint streets, handmade glass trinkets are sold by Burano natives. Also, don’t forget to pick up a beautiful lace blouse or scarf to add to your wardrobe!
Most importantly, Burano is a pleasure for the eyes. Hot pink, lime green, baby blue, and lemon yellow are just a few of the stunningly bright colors that help trademark this island as one of the top 10 most colorful places in the world. Take lots of pictures– your family and friends won’t believe their eyes! No one can!
