Florida • Biking Around the South Walton Beaches

Florida consistently has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Whether you prefer the white sands of the Gulf coast or the big waves of the Atlantic Coast, every beach seems to have something unique to offer and every beach town has a different vibe. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the several towns along Highway 30A in the Florida panhandle. Rosemary Beach feels European with homes that look more like chateaus while everything in Alys Beach is whitewashed like the south of Spain. Seaside is a picture-perfect Pleasantville, while Grayton Beach feels artsy and bohemian.

No matter where you decide to stay, you can still experience all of the beaches and towns by biking between them. The beauty of biking is that you can be outside, but still cover more ground than you would while walking. Bamboo Bicycle Company offers a 10% discount to Rosemary residents and visitors staying there. Bike rentals are $15/day. Seaside residents can rent bikes through various rental agency options like Big Fish Bike Rentals and YOLO Bike Rentals.

You can bike around the towns, on trails through the wooded area surrounding Western Lake in Watercolor, or alongside the state park in Grayton Beach. After admiring the immaculately bleached architecture in Alys Beach, you can stop at Fonville Press for a coffee or Alys Shoppe for some retail therapy.

If retail therapy is what you’re into, you can bike to many fantastic boutiques along 30A. For inexpensive and trendy pieces, try DejaVu in Seaside or Fuss Boutique in Watercolor. For designer duds from Lilly Pulitzer, Trina Turk, Free People, or Vineyard Vines, Barefoot Princess in Watercolor is for you.

For gift items or to take a piece of 30A home with you, The Blue Giraffe is stocked with books, stationery, and artwork and jewelry made by local artists. Sundog Books is a family-owned, independent bookstore that has been a part of Seaside for 30 years and is the perfect place to pick up a beach read or attend a book signing.

Finally, end your day of biking around 30A with some of the best sunset views in the world in the fun and laidback atmosphere at Bud and Alley’s. There is always a great crowd no matter the time of day. Whatever you decide, you are bound to have a great time if you get out and explore the 30A beaches on bikes!
