Where in the world would you expect to find the best sushi outside of Japan? Perhaps in one of many leading capital cities: New York, Paris or London. Or possibly in Japan’s neighbouring counties? Well, I’m pretty sure I found it in the tiny town of San Juan Del Sur, in Central America’s Nicaragua, and unbelievably, I’m sure it’s some of the best sushi I’ve ever had, worldwide!
Sushi La Barra is one of those places you need not judge by it’s cover. It’s quite literally a hidden gem. From the outside, the chances of you going in are slim, but from a quick ask-around town, you’ll be persuaded into trying the rolls of this teeny, tiny, shed-like restaurant’s culinary delights… even if it does take some initial hesitation at the shabby entrance.
You might be inclined to eat lots of Mexican food with Taco shops on every corner in Latin America, but you don’t always have to stick with the delicacies of an area and after a few months of travelling on one continent you might be craving something a little different. If so, Sushi La Barra is your spot and trust me, you’ll be amazed at what’s served up at this little wonder shop.
