The Lake District National Park, England – Super Sunday at Strawberry Bank

For a country girl like me, born in the beautiful Lake District National Park in the North West of England, there’s only one true place to take your Dad on Fathers’ Day, and it’s to the pub, of course! Now in my humble opinion, it’s possible that nothing beats spending a sleepy Sunday afternoon enjoying a cold beer (or a luke-warm one, as us Brits prefer ale!) at your ‘local’, surrounded  by some friendly country folk and complimented by some deliciously hearty, home-cooked pub-grub. We’re talking crisp fish and hand-cut chips, steaming steak pie, and slow cooked-pork, succulent enough to satisfy any big appetite and keep you fuelled for a day exploring the Lakes.

The Masons Arms pub, in Cartmel, Strawberry Bank, is the perfect provider of this peaceful afternoon with your dad. However it has one quite special edition that makes it my ultimate pub pick. Described by the owners as a ‘timber-beamed inn with rustic chic dining room’, it’s the outside of this place that really won me over in the spring and summer months with an unparalleled view of the Winster Valley from the outside dining area. Believe me, it’s worth the rickety uphill drive and risky road-side parking (just don’t forget your hand-break) but if he’s anything like mine, your dad loves an adventure anyway right?

The surrounding area is equally beautiful so use this precious bolt-hole as a base for a relaxing day in one of the most stunning parts of the world. Trust me, your dad will feel like a King up here! Failing that, he’s sure to enjoy some good food and drink, so it’s a win-win situation.
