Tulum, Mexico – Ruins Overlooking the Sea

This Tip has been suggested by our Latina Explorer: Letier Santana (Wanderlust Vixen)

Visiting Chichen Itza, one of the new 7 wonders of the world, is on top of everyone’s list when traveling to the Yucatan region in Mexico. The drive to Chichen Itza from Cancun is approximately 2.5 hours. But no fear, if you are on a short trip and are already planning to travel down the Riviera Maya, you can check out the impressive Tulum Ruins instead.

The Tulum Ruins, 45 minutes south of Playa Del Carmen, are the only ruins overlooking the Caribbean Sea. This spectacular combination allows visitors to take truly unique photos. If you plan on recording or bringing in a GoPro you will have to pay a $5 (USD) but it is worth it. Art History enthusiasts will enjoy learning about the temple called “El Castillo”, where the sun rises exactly through the temple on the summer solstice.

Remember to bring your swimsuit as you can dive into the gorgeous beach also known as “Playa Paraiso” (see featured photo).
